Historical Development of the Relationship between Polyphagia and Diabetes
The rapid increase in the incidence of diabetes is closely related to changes in eating habits in modern society. Based on the ancient books of Chinese Medicine
we systematically analyzed and combed the relationship between over-eating and diabetes. We believe that Inner Canon of Yellow Emporor( 《黄帝内经》) firstly described the eating habits of polyphagia as the cause of spleen-heat syndrome and diabetes
and laid the theoretical foundation for polyphagia. Golden Chamber Synopsis( 《金匮要略》) established the view that the human body is weak and pathogenic. After the Wei
Jin
Sui and Tang Dynasties
it expanded the scope of application of polyphagia diseases
and the innovative practice of academic contend during the Song and Jin dynasties
and the promotion of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. With the promotion of modern medical theory combined with modern methods
the connotation of overeating disease caused by polyphagia has been continuously developed and matured. It has become a consensus that an unreasonable diet can induce spleen-heat syndrome and lead to the onset of diabetes.
