Effects of Different Treatment Modes on Quality of Life of End-stage Lung Cancer Patients: A Retrospective Study
Objective To analyze effects of treatment modes on life quality of primary lung cancer patients in the last 6 months. Methods Totally 246 cases of primary lung cancer deaths with a survival period longer than 6 months were collected and patients treated with anti-tumor therapy( using either surgery
radiotherapy
chemotherapy
or combination therapy) and targeted drug treatment were set as anti-tumor group. The patients treated with simple Chinese medicine was set as a simple Chinese medicine group. Retrospective research methods were used to analyze theeffect of different treatment methods on the quality of life( transfusion rate
pain medication
theophylline use rate
oxygen intake
etc.). Results Of the 246 patients
113 were in the Chinese medicine group and 133 were in the anti-tumor group. Compared with the anti-tumor group
the blood transfusion rate
the use rate of the ascending blood needle
the use rate of the pain medicine
and the use of theophylline
the use of hormones
the rate of effusions
the days of use of sedatives
the use of hemostatic agents
and days of hospitalization in the use of the traditional Chinese medicine treatment alone were significantly lower than those of the anti-tumor group
with statistically significant differences( P < 0. 05 or P < 0. 01). The analysis of relevant influencing factors showed that radiotherapy
chemotherapy
and targeted therapy could increase the use of end-stage support measures for patients with cancer
while Chinese medicine alone had less drugs for end-stage supportive care. Conclusions Chinese medicine treatment alone can significantly relieve the symptoms of lung cancer patients before their death
improve their quality of life at the end of life
and can be used as one of the end-stage palliative care and hospice care.
