This paper analyzed the clinical experience of Professor LAI Xinsheng in treating sequelae of neuralgia caused by herpes zoster based on syndrome differentiation with tong yuan therapy（通元疗法）. Professor LAI believed that the incidence of herpes zoster was mostly caused by weak healthy qi

damage by wind-heat toxicity; or liver depression transforming into fire

and accumulation of fire toxicity; or wind-cold accumulation and block in body. The location of this disease was in the liver and lung

subsequently in the kidney for a long time. Clinical manifestations are mixed wind-heat toxicity

but mainly in wind-heat; mixed wind-heat toxicity

but mainly in toxicity; stagnation of wind-cold. Acupuncture therapy of purging heat and regulating the liver

oral administration of Chinese medicine therapy Chaizhang Jiedu Decoction（柴杖解毒汤）

external washing therapy Langen Lotion（蓝根洗剂） were selfdesigned. Combined with zang-fu and meridian differentiation

"Tong yuan Therapy"was used to treat from primordial spirit with acupuncture and Chinese medicine to tranquilize the spirit and regulate yin and yang.
