XU Jingfan’s Experiences in Treating Ulcerative Colitis
This paper introduced Professor XU Jingfan’s experiences in treating ulcerative colitis. It is believed that the location of ulcerative colitis is in the intestine
and that the root cause is in the spleen
related to liver
lung and kidney. The major pathogenesis is pathogenic stagnations in the intestines
dampness-heat congestion and excessiveness
and stagnation of qi and blood. The principle of treatment is "eliminating pathogenic factors and removing stagnancy and obstruction"and "regulating the functions of zang-fu organs".The basis of the treatment is clearing heat and resolving dampness
accompanied by removing heat from blood to remove blood stasis. It is mainly based on invigorating the spleen
supplemented by regulating the functions of lung and liver
and benefiting the kidney
as well as promoting food digestion to relieve food retention
