Effects of Qufeng Jiejing Decoction(祛风解痉方药) on Airway Hyperresponsiveness in Patients with Bronchial Asthma
Objective To observe the clinical efficacy and safety of Qufeng Jiejing Decoction(祛风解痉方药) in treating patients with bronchial asthma. Methods A total of 63 patients with bronchial asthma were selected and randomly assigned to a treatment group(42 cases) and a control group(21 cases) according to the random number table. The treatment group was given oral Qufeng Jiejing Decoction
1 dose each time
while the control group was given salmeterol xinafoate and fluticasone propionate powder for inhalation
1 inhalation each time
twice a day. The course of treatment was 2 weeks and they would be followed up for 2 weeks. The traditional Chinese medicine symptom(TCM) scores and lung function including peak expiratory flow rate(PEF%)
peak expiratory flow(PEF)
the ratio of forced expiratory volume in one second to the forced vital capacity(FEV1/FVC%)
the forced expiratory volume in one second rate(FEV1%) were observed. The TCM syndrome efficacy in both groups were evaluated. The asthma control test(ACT) score before and at the time of follow-up were scored and the ACT score efficacy was evaluated. Results There was no significant difference in the total effective rate in Chinese medicine syndrome efficacy between groups(P > 0. 05). The scores of TCM symptoms after treatment were significantly decreased than those before treatment(P < 0. 05). After treatment
the scores of nasal itching and smelling the odor in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group(P < 0. 05). After treatment
the FEV1%
PEF and PEF% of both groups were increased compared with before the treatment(P < 0. 05)
but there was no significant difference in the indexes of lung function between groups(P > 0. 05). The basic control rate of ACT of the treatment group(78. 9%) was significantly higher than that of the control group(63. 2%)(P < 0. 05). Conclusion Qufeng Jiejing Decoction can significantly improve the clinical symptoms of bronchial asthma patients
control asthma attacks and improve airway obstruction
and is an effective method for preventing and treating airway hyperresponsiveness in bronchial asthma patients.
