Effects of Huqi Formula(槲芪方) on Quality of Life of Primary Liver Cancer of Vital Qi Deficiency and Toxin-Blood Stasis Coagulation Syndrom: A Retrospective Cohort Study
Objective To evaluate the clinical effects of Huqi Formula( 槲芪方) on quality of life( QOL) of primary liver cancer patients with vital qi deficiency and toxin-blood stasis coagulation syndrom after transhepatic arterial chemotherapy and embolization( TACE). Methods A retrospective cohort study method was conducted
and the patients who were selected from Beijing You’an Hospital
Capital Medical University from January 2013 to November 2016 with primary liver cancer treated by TACE were divided into treatment group of 88 cases and control group of89 cases according to taking Chinese medicine or not. Both groups were observed for 24 weeks. The control group was given conventional western therapy
and the treatment group was given oral Huqi Formula on the basis of the control group. The traditional Chinese medicine( TCM) symptoms scores
QOL
liver functions such as alanine aminotransferase( ALT)
aspartate aminotransferase( AST)
alkaline phosphatase( ALP)
glutamyltranspeptidase( GGT)
total bilirubin( TBiL)
direct bilirubin( DBiL)
albumin( ALB)
and alpha fetoprotein( AFP) level before and after therapy were compared to determine the efficacy of TCM syndromes. Results After treatment
TCM syndrome scores in both groups were lower than those before treatment
and the treatment group was obvious than the control group( P < 0. 01). The total effective rate of TCM syndrome in the treatment group was 60. 23%
and that in the control group was 7. 86%. The treatment group was superior to the control group( P < 0. 01). QOL score of the treatment group increased after treatment compared with that before treatment
and was significantly higher than that of the control group( P < 0. 01). After treatment
ALT
AST
ALP
DBiL and TBiL in both groups showed no statistical significance compared with that before treatment( P > 0. 05). After treatment
GGT level in the treatment group was lower than that in the control group
and ALB level was higher than that in the control group( P < 0. 05). AFP level in 13 patients of 54( 24. 07%) in the treatment group and 29 of 83( 34. 94%) in the control group was decreased. There was no significant difference between the two groups( P > 0. 05). Conclusion Huqi Formula can obviously improve the clinical symptoms and QOL of primary liver cancer patients with vital qi deficiency and toxin-blood stasis coagulation after TACE.
