Tongmai Buxin Ointment(通脉补心膏方) Combined with Western Medicine in Treating 50 Cases of Acute MyocardialInfarction with Qi Deficiency and Blood Stasis Syndrome:A Retrospective Cohort Study
Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of Tongmai Buxin Ointment( 通脉补心膏方) in the treatment of patients with acute myocardial infarction of qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome. Methods A retrospective cohort study was conducted to collect patients of acute myocardial infarction with qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome who were admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine from January 2016 to December 2017 through the electronic medical record system. A total of 50 patients treated with Tongmai Buxin Ointment and conventional western medicine were selected as the ointment group
and 49 patients with conventional western medicine only were western medicine group. The traditional Chinese medicine( TCM) syndrome efficacy
Killip grading
New York Heart Association( NYHA) cardiac function grading
cardiac color Doppler ultrasound results including left ventricular ejection fraction( LVEF)
left ventricular end diastolic diameter( LVEDD)
left ventricular end systolic diameter( LVESD)
and quality of life evaluation before and after treatment between groups were compared. Results The total effective rate of TCM syndrome efficacy of the ointment group( 96. 00%) was higher than that of the western medicine group( 83. 67%)( P < 0. 01). After treatment
the scores of Killip heart function and NYHA cardiac function grading were lower than those before treatment( P < 0. 01)
and the ointment group was superior to the western medicine group( P< 0. 01). After treatment
LVEDD and LVESD were increased compared within group before treatment( P < 0. 05 or P < 0. 01). The LVESD of the ointment group was smaller than that of the western medicine group( P < 0. 05). The EF of the western medicine group decreased after treatment( P < 0. 05). The serum BNP level and quality of life scores of both groups were significantly improved after treatment( P < 0. 01)
and the improvement of the ointment group was more significant than that of the western medicine group( P < 0. 01). Both groups had no serious adverse reactions during the treatment period. Conclusion Tongmai Buxin Ointment is effective in treating the patients with acute myocardial infarction with qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome
