PANG Guoming’s Experience in Treating Type 2 Diabetes from Phlegm
This paper summarized PANG Guoming’s clinical experience in treating type 2 diabetes from phlegm. He put forward the theory of "phlegm-induced diabetes"
and believed that "greasy obstruction"was the germination soil of type 2 diabetes. The process of phlegm turbidity and phlegm heat accumulation is the initial factor in the course of type 2 diabetes. Phlegm restraining the soil
soil obstructing wood depression
and abnormal transportation of fluid essence
food essence stagnating blood are important links in the rise of blood sugar. Phlegm heat consuming and damaging qi and qi yin damage is the internal factor of "three more and one less"or urine with sweet flavor. The treatment should focus on harmonizing the middle and treating phlegm
or resolving phlegm and descending turbid
or resolving phlegm and clearing heat to transport earth to wood
and regulate and harmonize ascending and descending.Phlegm turbid obstructing the middle syndrome should be treated with drying dampness to resolve phlegm
elevating clear qi to lower turbid qi
and with prescription of Hezhong Jiangzhuo Tiaotang Decoction( 和中降浊调糖饮) . Internal accumulation of phlegm heat syndrome should be treated with resolving phlegm and clearing heat
harmonizing the middle and regulating sugar
and with prescription of Qingre Huatan Tiaotang Decoction( 清热化痰调糖饮) .
