Research on the Current Situation of Scientific Research Funds and Competitiveness of “Double first-class” Traditional Chinese Medicine Universities and Colleges
Objective To analyze the scientific research competitiveness and its changing trends of 6 traditional Chinese medicine( TCM) universities and colleges that included in world-class universities and first-class disciplines construction universities and construction disciplines list( referred to as "double first-class"TCM universities). Methods Science Fund Sharing Service Network of National Natural Science Foundation of China was used to obtain funding projects from the Department of Medical Sciences from January 1
2010 to December 31
2017
in the fields of general projects
TCM
Chinese materia medica and integrated Chinese and western medicine. The 6 TCM universities and colleges that entered the list of "double first-class"were Beijing University of Chinese Medicine
Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine
Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine
and Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine( hereinafter referred to as BUCM
TUTCM
SUTCM
NUCM
GUCM and CUTCM). The annual projects were obtained
and the rate and coefficient of variation of each institution in each year was calculated. The Medical Study Competitiveness Index( MSCI) for TCM
Chinese materia medica and integrative Chinese and western medicine of each institute was calculated. Results The number of grants from the medical fund and TCM fund increased in2010-2017
but the proportion of TCM funds in medical funds decreased slightly
while the proportion of TCM funds in the "double first-class"TCM institutions accounted for the national TCM fund increased from 28. 76% in 2010 to34. 77% in 2017. Among the composition of TCM funds
the proportion of TCM increased from 41. 15% to 47. 21%
and the integration of Chinese and western medicine increased from 19. 03% to 22. 97%
while Chinese materia medica decreased from 39. 82% to 29. 82%. Compared with the MSCI of "double first-class"TCM institutions and the MSCI of 2017
the comprehensive MSCI value of BUCM was the largest( 1. 3304)
the MSCI of TUTCM was the smallest( 0. 6065); the MSCI of SUTCM in 2017 was highest( 1. 3601)
and TUTCM was the smallest( 0. 4464).The extreme rate and coefficient of variation of the scientific research competitiveness of "double first-class"TCM institutions in TCM were on the rise. The comprehensive MSCI of SUTCM was the largest( 1. 3886)
and TUTCM was the smallest( 0. 5523); The extreme rate and coefficient of variation of the scientific research competitiveness of"double first-class"TCM institutions in Chinese materia medica were on the rise. The comprehensive MSCI of NUCM was the largest( 1. 7500)
and TUTCM was the smallest( 0. 2539); the extreme rate of the scientific research competitiveness of "double first-class"TCM institutions in integrative Chinese and western medicine fluctuated greatly
and the coefficient of variation showed a downward trend. The MSCI of GUCM was the largest( 1. 4308)
and CUTCM was the smallest( 0. 3986). Conclusion The overall scientific research competitiveness of "double firstclass"TCM institutions is on the rise
but the scientific research competitiveness among universities is different. Each school has its own advantages in the scientific research competitiveness of TCM
Chinese materia medica and integrated Chinese and western medicine.
