Based on the fact that constitution relating to disease

constitution determining the onset

and constitution determining the outcome and prognosis of disease

it is believed that traditional Chinese medicine（TCM） constitution can provide methods

tools and evaluation systems for implementing "preventive treatment of disease"

and realize transformation from individual prevention to group prevention

which helps individualized diagnosis

treatment and health maintenance. Based on recent research

application status and future development trends of TCM constitution and preventive treatment of disease

combined with the theory on tertiary prevention system of constitution

and also based on three levels of preventive treatment of disease

i. e. regulating constitution for preventing disease

regulating constitution for preventing development and regulating constitution for preventing recurrence

the research and application of TCM constitution in preventive treatment of disease are discussed. Prospects are presented from aspects of clinical methods based on constitution differentiation

preventive methods of regulating constitution for preventing disease

and technical methods of intelligent constitution differentiation

so as to provide ideas for further research.
