Objective To explore the clinical effectiveness of oral Tuoli Xiaodu Powder（托里消毒散） combined with Erjing Powder（耳净散） spraying under ear endoscope for treating fungal otitis externa with syndrome of vital qi deficiency and pathogen lingering. Methods A total of 68 patients with fungal otitis externa of vital qi deficiency and pathogen lingering syndrome were randomly divided into a treatment group and a control group with 34 cases in each group. Patients in treatment group were administered with oral Tuoli Xiaodu Powder

twice daily

together with Erjing Powder spraying under ear endoscope

once every three days. Patients in control group were painted with triamcinolone acetonide and econazole nitrate cream

once daily. Both groups were treated for two weeks. The total effective rate and the itching score were assessed after treatment. The recurrence rate was followed up for one month after the end of treatment. Results The total effective rate of the treatment group was 91.18%（31/34）

which was significantly higher than 79.41%（27/34） of control group（P<0.05）. The itching scores of both groups were lower than before treatment

and the treatment group had significantly lower itching score compared to the control group（P<0.05）. After one-month follow up

the recurrence rates of the treatment and control groups were 3.23%（1/31） and 25.93%（7/27） respectively（P<0.05）. Conclusion Oral Tuoli Xiaodu Powder combined with Erjing Powder spraying under ear endoscope is effective for treating fungal otitis externa with syndrome of vital qi deficiency and pathogen lingering

and has advantages in controlling the recurrence rate.
