LI Qinghai′s Experience on Treatment of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy
This paper introduces Professor LI Qinghai′s experience in treating hypertrophic cardiomyopathy(heart accumulation). It is believed that the disease is mostly due to insufficient congenital endowment and acquired disorders
resulting in the deficiency and depletion of heart
spleen and kidney
especially the deficiency of both qi and yin of the heart. When insufficient qi fails to promote blood circulation
and stasis obstructs the vessels
yin-fluid distribution is impaired and phlegm is therefore formulated when fluids accumulate; the heart loses nourishment
while the phlegm and stasis are binded and accumulated in the heart
gradually formulate the myocardial hypertrophy. In treatment
the combination of Chinese and Western medicine is advocated to play the synergistic effect; replenishing method should be taken as priority by supplementing qi and yin and tonifying the spleen and kidney; phlegm and stasis need to be treated together but with emphasis; and insect medicine should be taken fully use of to expel stasis
dissipate masses
unblock the channels and quicken the collaterals. Self-made Si Wei Chong Formula(四味虫方) is suggested to be used throughout the treatment to improve ventricular wall remodeling
and to block or reverse hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
