Discussion on Acupuncture for Treating Functional Dyspepsia Based on the Theory of Brain-gut Interaction
it is considered that the brain-gut interaction takes the intestinal flora as the medium and communicates with each other through various channels such as nerves
endocrine
and immunity. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that as there are wide meridian connections between the brain
stomach and intestine
the organs complement each other in the physiological structure and influence each other in pathological mechanism. The brain-gut-microbiota axis comprised of the complex neuro-endocrine-immune network is considered to be closely related to the development of functional dyspepsia(FD). Acupuncture can regulate the balance of intestinal flora and have effects on the secretion of brain-gut peptide and the release of neurotransmitters and endocrine-immune factors through the brain-gut-microbiome axis
so as to improve the clinical symptoms such as gastrointestinal motility
low-grade duodenal inflammation
anxiety and depression-like manifestation in patients with FD.
