The Design of Case Report Form of Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinical Trials in Infertility
The quality of case report form (CRF) in clinical trials directly affects the quality of the research data
even the clinical trials. Based on the experience of conducting several multi-center large-sample traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) clinical trials in fertility
this paper proposed that CRF of TCM clinical trials in infertility should be designed following the consistency principle between recorded content and research protocol; moreover
the specific physiological and pathological characteristics during pregnancy and childbirth as well as the specificity of TCM interventions should be reflected. Regarding infertility clinical trials
pregnancy and childbirth-related terms should be defined when designing the CRF
and major events at important timepoints should be collected; the follow-up part should be set to obtain the end-point outcomes and safety indicators related to pregnancy and childbirth; and the adverse events should be collected by different stages and for different population. Additionally
national and international reporting standards or specifications of clinical trials should be referred to
thus developing a qualified CRF to collect the details of TCM interventions such as acupuncture and Chinese herbal formulas as well as adverse events in a thorough and systematic way.
