Literature-based Study on Traditional Chinese Medicine Syndromes and Syndrome Elements of Non-small Cell Lung Cancer at Different Stages
To explore the characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndromes and syndrome elements of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) at different stages.
Methods
2
Electronic databases including CNKI
CBM
VIP and Wanfang Databases were searched for literature on syndromes and syndrome elements of NSCLC from the inception dates to July 31st
2019. The papers were extracted according to the tumor node metastasis classification (TNM) staging system which classified NSCLC into stage Ⅰ
Ⅱ
Ⅲ
and Ⅳ
and data on TCM syndromes and syndrome elements were collected to establish a database; descriptive statistics were used to analyze the distribution characteristics of the syndromes and syndrome elements of each stage.
Results
2
A total of 32 articles were included involving 5
286 cases. There were ten common TCM syndromes with frequency ≥3%
which were deficiency of both
qi
and
yin
syndrome
lung
qi
deficiency syndrome
lung-spleen
qi
deficiency syndrome
phlegm-damp obstructing the lung syndrome
phlegm-heat obstructing the lung syndrome
spleen deficiency and phlegm-damp syndrome
yin
deficiency with internal heat syndrome
qi
stagnation and blood stasis syndrome
stasis obstructing the lung collaterals syndrome
and binding of phlegm and stasis syndrome. Taking frequency ≥3% as a criteria for screening the common syndrome elements
lung and spleen were the commonly seen location of diseases
the common elements related to nature of disease were
qi
deficiency
phlegm
yin
deficiency
damp
heat
blood stasis and
qi
stagnation.
Conclusion
2
Healthy
qi
deficiency is the basis of NSCLC; the location of the disease is in the lung
and the spleen is closely related. For stage I NSCLC
lung-spleen
qi
deficiency syndrome
deficiency of both
qi
and
yin
syndrome
and phlegm-damp obstructing the lung syndrome were commonly seen
as well as the disease nature-related elements including
qi
deficiency
yin
deficiency and phlegm; the common syndromes of stage Ⅱ NSCLC were lung
qi
deficiency syndrome
lung-spleen
qi
deficiency syndrome
and phlegm-damp obstructing the lung syndrome
and the main nature of disease were
qi
deficiency
phlegm and heat; stage Ⅲ NSCLC was characterized by deficiency of both
qi
and
yin
syndrome
lung-
qi
deficiency syndrome
and phlegm-damp obstructing the lung syndrome
and
qi
deficiency
phlegm and
yin
deficiency were commonly seen; regarding the stage Ⅳ NSCLC
deficiency of both
qi
and
yin
syndrome
lung-
qi
deficiency syndrome and phlegm-damp obstructing the lung syndrome were the common TCM syndromes
and
qi
deficiency
phlegm and
yin
deficiency were the common disease nature-related elements.
