Discussion on Methodology of Evaluating the Dominant Diseases of Traditional Chinese Medicine
To further promote the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in diagnosis and treatment
it is a prerequisite to select and determine its dominant diseases. To a certain extent
however
the selection of dominant diseases has been obstructed
as no national or industry consensus has ever been reached on the definition of dominant diseases as well as the related evaluation criteria and method. By reviewing the previous work and researches
this paper summarized the definition and scope of dominant diseases in TCM. It has been proposed that the disease incidence
the research condition of TCM on the disease
and the acceptance among experts and stakeholders should be objectively considered when evaluating the dominant diseases. Moreover
the cost-effectiveness of TCM on the diseases should be assessed by taking advantages of the various modern technologies in clinical medicine; and the evaluation system must address the advantages of TCM in the dominant diseases. Only by constructing such a multi-angle and multi-level objective evaluation system
