Development and Preliminary Optimization of the Dampness Syndrome Scale of Chinese Medicine
This paper introduced the dampness syndrome scale of Chinese medicine (DSSCM), which was constructed through item selection and optimization, so as to provide guidance for clinical evaluation and intervention of dampness syndrome. According to the international general method of scale development, and under the guidance of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory, the DSSCM was preliminarily constructed through the operationalization of the concept of dampness syndrome, the establishment of item pool, item selection, item optimization and clinical preliminary test. A cross-sectional survey was then conducted, and a total of 174 valid questionnaires were collected. The items were further screened by analyzing the data from questionnaires through item answer distribution method, discrete tendency analysis, item-total correlation analysis, factor analysis and stepwise regression analysis. Expert consensus was finnaly reached on the 30 items of the DSSCM which included obesity, hiding fever, head heaviness as if swathed, sticky and greasy sensation in mouth and others. Each item had five response options (1=not at all, 2=light, 3=mild, 4=severe, 5=extremely severe), and 15 or more items with score ≥3 can be determined as having dampness syndrome. The development of DSSCM-30 is scientific and reasonable which strictly follow the international standard for scale development. It can be widely used after measurement characteristics evaluation.
