Clinical Effects Evaluation of Featured Diagnosis and Treatment Techniques in Folk Medicine: Discussion on the Current Status and Methods
In China, the researches on featured diagnosis and treatment techniques in folk medicine (abbreviated as folk medical techniques) is still in its infancy, involving weak foundation and insufficient evidence to approve clinical decisions; therefore, standardized and efficient research methods are urgently needed in the evaluation of folk medical techniques. Through summarizing the current status and the confronted problems, it is proposed that the clinical eva-luation of folk medical techniques should follow its own features and development characteristics, and be conducted after literature review and through standard operation and preparation; the effective hypothesis of folk medical techniques can be obtained from classical case records, and the causal relationship between folk medical techniques and outcomes can be explored through cohort studies; group-randomized controlled trials are used to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of folk medical techniques, and individualized data should then be collected to interpret and supplement the group evidence. The evidence for each folk medical technique should be continuously accumulated based on the current status, thereby formulating the evidence chain of that folk medical technique.
