Effects of Resuscitation-inducing Needling Method and Subcutaneous Embedding of Thumb-tack Needle on Oral-phase Dysphagia after Stroke
To investigate the effect of resuscitation-inducing needling method combined with subcutaneous embedding of thumb-tack needle on oral-phase dysphagia after stroke.
Methods
2
Sixty patients diagnosed with oral-phase dysphasia after stroke were randomly divided into treatment group (30 cases) and control group (30 cases). The control group received routine therapy and resuscitation-inducing needling method treatment seven times per week, and the treatment group additionally received subcutaneous embedding of thumb-tack needle on facial acupoints Dicang (ST4), Jiache (ST6), Xiaguan (ST7), Quanliao (SI18), Qianzheng (EX-HN) and Chengjiang (RN24) every other day, both for two weeks. The swallowing function and quality of life were assessed through Oral Function Scale, Kubota's Drinking Test and the Swallowing Quality of Life Scale questionnaire (SWAL-QOL) before and after treatment.
Results
2
After treatment, the oral function scores and SWAL-QOL scores of both groups were significantly improved (
P
<0.05), and higher scores were found in the treatment group than in the control group (
P
<0.05). The Kubota's Drinking Test scores in both groups significantly decreased after treatment (
P
<0.05), and more decrease was seen in the treatment group (
P
<0.05).
Conclusion
2
Subcutaneous embedding of thumb-tack needle on facial acupoints can significantly enhance the therapeutic effect of resuscitation-inducing on improvement of the symptoms and quality of life in patients with dysphagia in oral phase after stroke.
