Discussion on the Etiology, Pathogenesis and Treatment of Tumor-related Hiccups from the Perspective of “All Counterflow Upsurging is Ascribed to Fire”
This paper explores the etiology, pathogenesis and clinical manifestations of tumor-related hiccups based on the theory of “all counterflow upsurging is ascribed to fire”, by taking “ascending counterflow of stomach fire harrasing the diaphragm” as the core pathogenesis and taking reference from the modern research results. It is considered that the progress of tumors promotes the stomach fire to be exuberant; tumor-related depression generates liver fire which can assist stomach fire; after radiotherapy and chemotherapy, mutual reinforcement exists of lung fire and stomach fire; and deficiency fire in the stomach will harass the diaphragm after long-term illness. For treatment, it is recommended to clear stomach and subdue counterflow, to clear and sooth the liver, to clear and diffuse the lung and stomach, and to reinforce stomach fluid by enriching
