Literature Characteristics and Design Elements of the Comprehensive Evaluation of Chinese Herbal Medicine Using the Multi-criteria Decision Analysis Method
To analyze the literature characteristics and design methodology of comprehensive evaluation researches on Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) using multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) method, and to provide references for future design and implementation of MCDA in CHM researches.
Methods
2
Electronic databases including PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMbase, SinoMed, CNKI, CQVIP and Wanfang were searched from the inception dates to November 20th, 2020 for literature on comprehensive evaluation of CHM by using MCDA method. Two researchers independently screened the literature, extracted the data including basic characteristics, decision background, criteria category, evaluation method, weighting method and others, and performed descriptive analyses.
Results
2
A total of five Chinese papers publishing between 2017 and 2020 were included. The involved diseases were arthritis and acute upper respiratory tract infection, and the evaluated CHM were oral Wutou (
AconitumcarmichaeliDebx
) (3 papers), Leigongteng (
Radix Tripterygii Wilfordii
) preparations (3 papers), and
Shuanghuanglian
(双黄连) Injections (1 paper); Wutou and Leigongteng preparations were evaluated simultaneously in two papers. Only criteria on effectiveness and safety were designed in the included papers, while economy and accessibility indicators were not involved. All the papers used SWING weighting method, trying to convert the clinical data into linear functions and then weighted them. All the papers did not report the weight assignment and scorer information, and did not evaluate and report the methodological quality of the evidence.
Conclusion
2
It is still in the initial exploration phase of comprehensive evaluation of CHM using MCDA method, with few diseases and interventions having been evaluated and lack of methodological information reports. Therefore, more methodological researches are needed to solve the problems such as the selection of stakeholders and criteria, and the consensus-reaching of different stakeholders in the evaluation process.
