Discussion on Mechanism of Blood Invigorating and Urination Promoting Method in the Treatment of Acute Kidney Injury from the Perspective of Aquaporins
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a severe clinical syndrome characterized by rapid deterioration of renal function and accumulation of metabolic waste. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), “water, dampness, stasis, toxin” are considered to be the crucial pathogenesis of AKI. Therefore, blood invigorating and urination promoting method to remove the binding of water-dampness, static blood and turbid toxin holds the key to the treatment of AKI. Aquaporins (AQPs) are important proteins for water metabolism in the kidney, and are deeply involved in the development, progression and prognosis of AKI. Moreover, AQPs also serve as the main target of many blood-invigorating and urination-promoting formulas and medicinals. In this paper, we tried to explore the scientific connotation of blood invigorating and urination promoting method in the treatment of AKI from the perspective of the intrinsic relationship between AQPs and the core pathogenesis of AKI (“water, dampness, stasis, toxin”), hoping to provide new ideas and clues for the treatment of AKI in clinical practice.
