Discussions on Characteristics of Syndrome, Treatment and Psychosocial Feature of Functional Dyspepsia based on “Liver Qi Deficiency Leads to Fear” Theory
Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a typical psychosomatic disease in need of treatment on both body and mind. The interaction between mind and body, following the theory of “constraint leads to disease, and disease produces depression”in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), reflects the bio-pyscho-social medical model and keeps consistency with “abnormal brain-gut communication” of Rome Ⅳ criteria. According to the principle of“liver
qi
deficiency leads to fear while
qi
excess leads to anger”, liver
qi
deficiency syndrome supplements the
qi
constraint syndrome in differentiated treatment, and manifests the interaction between mind and body of “constraint leads to disease, and disease produces depression”, thereby proving guidance on treatment principles and methods of FD. Liver
qi
deficiency should be differentiated from liver
qi
constraint as well as gallbladder qi deficiency, and FD caused by liver
qi
deficiency has typical symptoms and psychosocial characteristics.
