Developing Exercise Prescription for Cardiac Rehabilitation after Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in People with Coronary Heart Disease
The pathogenesis of coronary heart disease (CHD) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is root-deficiency and branch-excess, mainly expressed by deficiency of
yang qi
as the root, and pathogenic cold, blood stasis, phlegm-turbidity, water-rheum and other
yin
pathogen as the branch. Exercise prescription can promote the generation and growth of
yang qi
in the body, promote cardiac rehabilitation, and improve cardiac function and exercise tolerance after PCI. It is proposed that exercise rehabilitation should combine movement and stillness, with “movement” as the core and “stillness” in supplementation, so as to obtain the unity of spirit and form when movement nourishes the form and stillness nourishes the spirit. Moreover, it is emphasized that the exercise form, intensity and duration should be moderate. To facilitate cardiac rehabilitation, personalized exercise rehabilitation program of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine is suggested, uniting modern cardiac rehabilitation exercise with traditional exercises such as
Taichi
,
Wuqinxi
(五禽戏),
Baduanjin
(八段锦), self-made exhalation and inhalation exercise,
qi
-vessels unblocking exercise, as well as combining with oral herbal formula and specific traditional Chinese medicine therapies.
