Correlation between Yin-deficiency Constitution and Disease: A Bibliometric Analysis of 196 Clinical Studies
To investigate and analyze the correlation between
yin
-deficiency constitution and di-sease based on the existing clinical research evidence.
Methods
2
Clinical studies on the correlation between body constitution and diseases using the creteria
Classification and Determination of Constitution in TCM
(《中医体质分类与判定》) from April 2009
publisation date of the creteria to December 31
2020 were systematically searched and included. Information on literature bibliography

percentage of
yin
-deficiency constitution among the total people with certain di-sease
odds radio (
OR
) or risk ratio (
RR
) of
yin
-deficiency constitution and disease were extracted and summarized
so as to analyze the association between
yin
-deficiency constitution and disease.
Results
2
Totally, 196 studies out of the 1746 studies were included, involving 83 038 cases. The results from 159 studies showed that
yin
-deficiency constitution was the most common constitutional type among hypertension (28.7%), diabetes (26.0%), constipation (32.8%), menopausal syndrome (29.5%), osteoporosis (26.0%), lung cancer (25.1%), dry eye disease (27.1%), breast cancer (20.4%), recurrent stroke (25.6%), allergic purpura (31.0%), ovarian insufficiency (28.3%), and insomnia (26.9%), with a median proportion from 20.4% to 32.8%. Forty-nine studies found that
yin
-deficiency constitution was a risk factor for hypertension (
OR
= 3.086), osteoporosis (
OR
= 3.167), and diabetes (
OR
= 1.859).
Conclusion
2
Yin
-deficiency constitution is closely related to certain circulatory, reproductive, endocrine, and skeletal system diseases, and diseases and symptoms related to TCM
yin
-deficiency syndrome in middle-aged and elderly people. Identification and regulation of
yin
-deficiency constitution will help to promote the prevention and treatment of these diseases.
