Strategies for Promoting Immune Reconstitution in HIV/AIDS Patients by Traditional Chinese Medicine
Incomplete immune reconstitution is a challenge in the treatment of HIV/AIDS, when decreased immune function coexists with abnormal immune activation. Traditional Chinese medicine is used to restore the abnormal exuberance or abnormal debilitation of
yin
and
yang
by adjusting the “excessive” or “deficient” condition. Adopting the treatment thought of “seek for balance” and following the principle of “two-way regulation”, the strategy for promoting immune reconstitution with TCM has been explored by promoting immune reconstitution and inhibiting abnormal immune activation, promoting anti-inflammatory factors and inhibiting the expression of pro-inflammatory factors, and regulating the balance of intestinal microecological environment. At the same time, it is suggested to pay more attention to researches using acupuncture, moxibustion and other nonpharmacological treatments as adjuvant therapy, trying to provide references for the construction of TCM intervention system to promote immune reconstruction in HIV/AIDS patients.
