Clinical Observation on Anterior Chamber Puncture Combined with Orifices-unblocking and Vision-improving Method for the Treatment of Retinal Artery Occlusion for More than 12 Hours with Qi Stagnation and Blood Stasis Syndrome: An analysis of 51 Cases
To explore the clinical efficacy and safety of anterior chamber puncture combined with orifices-unblocking and vision-improving method in the treatment of retinal artery occlusion (RAO) for more than 12 hours with
qi
stagnation and blood stasis syndrome.
Methods
2
Fifty-one patients (52 eyes) with RAO for more than 12 hours and
qi
stagnation and blood stasis syndrome were included, involving 36 eyes of central retinal artery occlusion and 16 eyes of branch retinal artery occlusion. Anterior chamber puncture was performed in emergency. After that, rifices-unblocking and vision-improving treatment was given, including oral
Tongqiao Huoxue Mingmu Formula
(通窍活血明目方), acupuncture, intravenous drip of salvia polyphenolate injection and
Xueshuantong injection
(血栓通注射液), and intramuscular injection of adenosylcobalamin, totally for 21 days. The best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) before treatment, after puncture, 7 days after treatment, and 21 days after treatment was measured; the change of the intraocular pressure (IOP) before and after the anterior chamber puncture was evaluated, and the clinical efficacy and safety were assessed. The associations of age, gender, disease type, disease duration with treatment efficacy were analyzed.
Result
2
After the treatment, 23 eyes (44.2%) were markedly effective, and 22 eyes (42.3%) were improved, while 7 eyes (13.5%) were ineffective, with an overall clinical efficacy of 86.5%. The BCVA before treatment, after anterior chamber puncture, after 7- and 21-day treatment was 1.80 (0.55, 2.43), 1.65 (0.30, 2.18), 1.10 (0.20, 2.00), and 0.85 (0.20, 1.70), respectively. The BCVA after 7- and 21-day treatment significantly increased compared to that before treatment and that after puncture, and more increase was found with 21-day treatment than 7-day treatment (
P
<0.01). The changes of BCVA and IOA before treatment and after puncture were not significantly correlated to clinical efficacy (
P
>0.05). Sex, gender, disease type, and disease course were not significantly correlated to clinical efficacy (
P
>0.05). There were no adverse reactions in all the patients during the treatment.
Conclusion
2
Anterior chamber puncture plus orifices-unblocking and vision-improving treatment can improve the BCVA of patients with RAO for more than 12 hours and
qi
stagnation and blood stasis syndrome, with sound clinical efficacy and safety, and is not affected by gender, age, disease type and course.
