Discussion on the Application of Symptom Threshold Events in the Efficacy Evaluation System of Treating Malignant Tumors in Traditional Chinese Medicine
Symptom management is one most important advantage of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in the treatment of malignant tumors. However, due to the lack of symptomatic efficacy evaluation methods that can fully reflect the clinical practice characteristics of TCM, its advantages in treating tumors are partially limited. The symptom threshold events (STE) has been used in many clinical symptom related intervention studies at home and abroad. After analyzing the application principle and characteristics of STE, it is considered suitable for the efficacy evaluation of TCM symptoms in treating tumors, not only conforming to the basic principles of clinical practice of TCM in tumors, but also meeting the requirements of modern medicine for the objectification and standardization of evaluation indicators. By summarizing the concept of the evaluation index STE, the specific research methods, and the related advantages and limitations in applying it to the efficacy evaluation of TCM symptoms in treating tumors, this paper further discussed the scientificity, feasibility and practicality of introducing STE into the efficacy evaluation system of TCM malignant tumors, so as to provide new ideas and references for the efficacy evaluation of TCM symptoms in tumor management.
