TANG Xudong's Experience in Treating Functional Gastrointestinal Diseases based on the Theory of Regulating the Center and Restoring Balance
This paper summarized professor TANG Xudong's clinical experience in treating functional gastrointestinal diseases (FGIDs) with the theory of “regulating the center and restoring balance”. It is believed that the core pathogenesis of FGIDs is the dysfunction of the spleen and stomach in the middle
jiao
(焦). The unbalanced ascending and descending of
qi
movement affect the physiological function of the gastrointestinal tract, thereby affecting the “balance” state of the overall coordination of other
zang fu
organs (脏腑),
qi
, blood, and the mind. In clinical practice, it is recommended to adopt the theory of “regulating the center and restoring balance” for overall adjustment. According to the pathological characteristics of spleen and stomach diseases, with the purpose of restoring the balance of
qi
movement and
zang fu
functions, it is advised to distinguish
zang
from
fu
organs, coordinate multiple organs, and put focus on the main; to distinguish deficiency from excess, combine movement and stillness, nourish avoiding stagnation; to distinguish
qi
from blood, and take medication at different depth with its own emphasis; to differentiate cold from heat, pay attention to the combination of medicinals, and adjust the medication flexibly to the syndrome following the principle of pursuing neutral state.
