Cancer Pain Treated by Miao Medicine Crossbow Medicine Needle Therapy Combined with Oxycodone Hydrochloride Extended-release Tablets: A Randomized Controlled Trial of 67 Cases
To investigate the effectiveness and safety of Miao Medicine crossbow medicine needle therapy combined with oxycodone hydrochloride extended-release tablets in treatment of cancer pain.
Methods
2
Totally 144 patients with cancer pain were divided into treatment group and control group using block randomization method, with 72 patients in each group. Control group was given oxycodone hydrochloride extended-release tablets orally, once every 12 hours. Treatment group was additionally given Miao Medicine crossbow medicine needle therapy, once every other day. Both groups were treated for 14 days. The numeric rating scale (NRS) scores including the worst, least, present and average pain score, the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI) scores including the pain intensity, impact and total score, the daily frequency of pain, the daily consumption of oxycodone hydrochloride extended-release tablets, and immune indicators including CD3
+
T lymphocytes (CD3
+
), CD4
+
T lymphocytes (CD4

), CD8

T lymphocytes (CD8

) and CD4

/CD8

were evaluated before and after treatment to evaluate the clinical efficacy, and the incidence of adverse reactions during treatment was calculated.
Results
2
Totally, 67 cases in the treatment group and 64 cases in the control group completed the trial. The total effective rate of the treatment group was 76.12%, which was significantly higher than 40.63% of the control group (
P
<0.01). The NRS scores of the worst, least, average and present pain significantly decreased in both groups after treatment (
P
<0.01), and were significantly lower in the control group (
P
<0.01); the changes before and after treatment of NRS scores were significantly larger (
P
<0.01). The BPI total score, intensity score and impact score of two groups significantly decreased after treatment (
P
<0.01), and were significantly lower in the control group (
P
<0.01); the changes before and after treatment of the BPI scores were significantly larger in the treatment group (
P
<0.01). The daily consumption of oxycodone hydrochloride tablets in both groups significantly increased after treatment (
P
<0.01), and the change before and after treatment was significantly larger in the control group (
P
<0.05). The daily frequency of pain was significantly reduced in both groups after treatment (
P
<0.01), and was lower in the treatment group (
P
<0.01) with more change before and after treatment (
P
<0.05). The CD3
+
content in the treatment group was significantly higher after treatment (
P
<0.05), with no statistical significantly differences in other immune indicators before and after treatment (
P
>0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions was 15.28% in the treatment group and 27.78% in the control group, with no statistical significance between the two groups (
P
>0.05).
Conclusion
2
Miao Medicine crossbow medicine needle therapy combined with oxycodone hydrochloride extended-release tablets has definite curative effect in the treatment of cancer pain, and is superior to oxycodone hydrochloride extended-release tablets alone in enhancing analgesic efficacy and improving quality of life.
