Application of the Point Combination of Regulating the Spirit in the Treatment of Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders by Acupuncture:based on the “Brain-gut axis” Theory
Functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGID) is mainly manifested as gastrointestinal dysfunction. In modern medicine, brain-gut axis takes an important role in the pathogenesis of FGID, consistenting with the point that brain spirit and gastrointestinal tract are mutually interacted with each other in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Based on this, it is proposed that brain disorder is a main pathogenesis of FGID, and point combinations to regulate spirit is addressed as a key to stabilize and improve the curative effect of acupuncture in treating the disease. The thought and connotation of point combinations to regulate spirit in the treatment of FGID by acupuncture is discussed in details, claiming that the acupoints such as Baihui (GV 20), Yintang (EX-HN3), Benshen (GB 13), and Taichong (LR 3) can be selected to restore the gastrointestinal function. At the same time, the method of fortifying the spleen, harmonizing the stomach, or unblocking the intestine should be combined based on pattern differentiation and symptomatic treatment, so as to treat the brain and intestine simultanously, and treat the root of the disease.
