Wheat Grain Moxibustion in Adjuvancy for the Treatment of 31 Cases of Persistent Bronchial Asthma
To observe the benefit of wheat grain moxibustion in adjuvancy for the treatment of patients with persistent bronchial asthma.
Methods
2
Sixty-two patients with persistent bronchial asthma who were admitted to the hospital from January 1st, 2019 to January 30th, 2021 were included and randomly divided into a control group and intervention group with 31 cases in each group. The control group was treated with salmeterol-ticasone powder inhalation (twice daily, 1 inhalation per time, holding the breath for about 10 s after inhalation), and acupuncture of warming yang and promoting
qi
flow at bilateral acupoints including Zusanli (ST 36), Feishu (BL 13), Taixi (KI 3), Dingchuan (EX-B1), Zhigou (SJ 6), Jianshi (PC 5), and Dazhui (DU 14)and Danzhong (RN 17), once daily, five times per week. The intervention group additionally received wheat grain moxibustion at bilateral Shenshu (BL 23), Pishu (BL 20)Feishu, and Dazhui, twice daily, every four days. Both groups were treated for 3 weeks as a course of treatment. After three courses, the curative effect was evaluated. The traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome score, immune function indicators including immunoglobulin M (IgM) and immunoglobulin G (IgG) levels, asthma control indicator asthma control test (ACT) score, and pulmonary ventilation function indicators including forced vital capacity (FVC) and forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV
1
) were compared between the two groups.
Results
2
The total effective rate of the intervention group was 93.55%, higher than 74.19% of the control group (
P
<0.05). The TCM syndrome score and ACT score significantly decreased after treatment in both groups, while IgM, IgG, FVC and FEV
1
levels increased, and more improvements were seen in the intervention group (
P
<0.05 or
P
<0.01).
Conclusion
2
Wheat grain moxibustion as adjuvant therapy can improve the immune function and pulmonary ventilation function and increase the clinical effect when treating chronic persistent bronchial asthma.
