Treatment of Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease with Spleen Deficiency and Binding of Phlegm and Stasis Syndrome by Lanzhang Granules (蓝杖颗粒): A Randomized Controlled Study
To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of Lanzhang Granules (蓝杖颗粒, LZG) in the treatment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) with spleen deficiency and binding of phlegm and stasis syndrome(SDPSS).
Methods
2
A randomized controlled study was conducted, in which 110 NAFLD patients with SDPSS were assigned to the treatment group (55 cases) and the control group (55 cases). Behavioral intervention of diet and exercise was used as the basic treatment. Treatment group was given LZG, while the control group was given placebo orally, 1 dose a day for 12 weeks. The controlled attenuation parameters (CAP), traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome score, blood lipid levels including total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and blood glucose-related indicators including fasting blood glucose (FBG) and fasting insulin (FINS) were compared between the two groups before and after treatment. Liver function indicators including alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and glutamyl transferase (GGT) were compared between the two groups before treatment and at 4, 8, 12 weeks after treatment. The graded clinical efficacy of fatty liver, TCM syndrome clinical efficacy and safety were eva-luated after treatment.
Results
2
The total graded clinical efficacy of fatty liver in the treatment group (54.55%) was higher than that in the control group (14.55%,
P
<0.01). The total TCM syndrome efficacy in the treatment group (32.72%) was higher than that in the control group (14.55%,
P
<0.01). The CAP value, TCM syndrome score and TC decreased while HDL-C increased in the treatment group after treatment (
P
<0.05 or
P
<0.01). The AST level in the treatment group decreased at 4 weeks and 8 weeks after treatment (
P
<0.05). The CAP value in the treatment group was significantly lower than that in the control group (
P
<0.05). There was no significant difference in blood glucose-related indicators between the two groups before and after treatment (
P
>0.05). Adverse reactions occurred in one case of the treatment group and 2 cases in the control group. There were no serious adverse reactions in both groups.
Conclusion
2
LZG in the treatment of NAFLD with SDPSS can effectively reduce the degree of liver fat infiltration and blood lipid levels, significantly relieve the clinical symptoms, and is of good safety.
