Discussion on Symptomatic Treatment based on Pathogenesis Differentiation
The understanding and treatment of disease begin with “symptoms”. “Symptomatic treatment” is a shortcut to obtain clinical efficacy, but long-term effect depends on whether the pathogenesis is well understood. On the basis of long-term clinical practice,“symptom” is the external realization of the pathogenesis, and the pathogenesis serves as the key factor determining the development of the disease. This paper discussed “symptomatic treatment” from the perspectives of differentiating pathogenesis from symptoms, symptoms changing with the pathogenesis, and integrating disease, symptoms and pathogenesis based on the theory of treatment according to pathogenesis differentiation. With the help of modern technology, the mechanism of microstructure and function change of the lesion could be understood from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). After integrating the micro physical and chemical indicators with the whole syndrome, the shackles of symptom differentiation could be broken through, and the clinical diagnosis and treatment way enriched, and even the disease is reversed by treating the micro “symptom” at the early stage of the disease. Only by integrating disease, symptom and pathogenesis, can we fully understand, diagnose and treat the disease comprehensively, avoiding overgeneralization and highlighting the unique effect of TCM.
