The Evolution of the Connotation and Scope of the "Various Wind" Category from the Perspective of the Format of Ancient Traditional Chinese Medicine Books
This article summarized the evolution process of the connotation and scope of the "various wind" category in ancient traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) books in various historical periods, including the beginning of the classification of "various wind" diseases in medical books in Qin and Han Dynasty; the formation and development of the "various wind" category in medical books in Sui and Tang Dynasty; the integration of "various wind" diseases and the independence of the "stroke" category in medical books in Song, Jin and Yuan Dynasty; the succession of "various wind" to the "dispelling wind" category, and the separation of "various wind" diseases in comprehensive medical works in Ming and Qing Dynasty. Finally, we explored the background of medical development and the differences in disease classification thinking among medical book compilers of different eras and identities, uncovered the value of the traditional classification of "various wind" diseases, so as to provide a supplementary path of "phenomenon-function-holism" paradigm for modern TCM disease classification.
