BAI Yanping's Experience in Treating Telogen Effluvium by Using Aromatic Medicinals
To summarize the clinical experience of Prof. BAI Yanping in treating telogen effluvium by using aromatic medicinals. It is believed that
qi
and blood disharmony is the core pathogenesis of telogen effluvium, and relieving stuffy orifices is the prerequisite for nourishing the hair. The clinical treatment usually chose aromatic medi-cinals to regulate and harmonize
qi
and blood, with relieving stuffy orifices and nourishing hair as the basic therapeutic method, and Sanwu Qiqiao Decoction
(三物启窍汤) as the basic formula. On this basis, sparse and dry hair indicates
qi
and blood deficiency, so the treatment should tonify liver and kidney, relieve stuffy orifices and cool blood, with modified Jixiang Yangfa Decoction (集香养发汤); scalp seborrhea indicates
qi
and blood stagnation, so the treatment suggested to fortify spleen and resolve dampness, relieve stuffy orifices and cool blood, with modified Jixiang Jingfa Decoction (集香净发汤); dandruff and itchy scalp indicates disharmony of
qi
and blood, so the treatment suggested to dispel wind and clear heat, relieve stuffy orifices and harmonize blood, with modified Jixiang Zhongfa Decoction (集香种发汤). Simultaneously, emphasis should be placed on the use of aromatic medicinals, blood-nourishing medicinals, and meridian-inducing medicinal.
