Evaluation of Traditional Chinese Medicine in the Treatment of Functional Gastrointestinal Diseases Based on Individual Patient Data Meta-Analysis增强出版
To evaluate the effectiveness of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in treating functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs) and to explore the advantages of TCM interventions.
Methods
2
This study utilized data from the clinical research data management platform of Xiyuan Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences. It included randomized controlled clinical trials focused on FGIDs that took place between 2016 and 2022. Data regarding the general information and efficacy evaluation of patients were collected, with efficacy evaluation indicators including symptom effectiveness (≥50% improvement in major symptoms) , quality of life, and improvements in depression and anxiety. The data were analyzed using individual patient data (IPD) meta-analysis.
Results
2
The study included a total of six randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind trials, involving 1722 patients with 1033 in the treatment group and 689 in the placebo group. The results of the IPD meta-analysis demonstrated that TCM had significant advantages in terms of the effective rate of main symptoms [

Conclusion

TCM may provide potential therapeutic benefits for patients with FGIDs by improving major clinical symptoms and alleviating their accompanying depression and anxiety disorders.
