Acupuncture and Herbal Treatment of Pediatric Tic Disorder Based on the Theory of "Opening,Closing, and Pivot"
Guided by the theory of "opening, closing, and pivot", this paper explores the therapeutic approach of acupuncture combined with herbal medicine for pediatric tic disorder (TD). It is proposed that the fundamental pathogenesis of TD lies in the dysfunction of
yin
-
yang
ascending, descending, exiting, and entering movements. The impaired pivot mechanism of the
shaoyang
channel, together with the dysregulation of opening and closing in the
taiyang
and
yangming
channels, constitutes the key factors leading to tic onset, while depletion of
yin
fluids contributes to the chronic and recurrent nature of the disease. In treatment, a combination of acupuncture and herbal therapy is advocated. The core strategy is to regulate the
shaoyang
pivot through liver-soothing and wind-extinguishing acupuncture methods. According to the child's specific syndrome pattern, therapeutic emphasis may be placed on activating
taiyang
to dispel wind pathogens and unblocking
yangming
to descend turbid
qi
, thereby restoring the normal opening and closing of these channels. Meanwhile, attention should be paid to harmonizing and tonifying the three
