Treatment of Pediatric Chronic Cough Based on the "Five Zang (脏) Organs Wind" Theory
This paper discussed the pathogenesis of pediatric chronic cough. It is believed that the retained pathogenic wind in the five
zang
(脏) organs can lead to pathological changes such as transformation into
heat, fixed cold, phlegm complication, water retention, or stasis generation. Furthermore, the combination of wind and other pathogenic factors causes dysfunction of the five
zang
organs, leading to persistent cough that is difficult to cure, and cough manifestations vary according to the characteristics of the affected
zang
organs. In clinical practice, chronic cough in children is classified into lung, liver, spleen, kidney and heart wind cough, for which the fundamental approach involves regulating functions of five
zang
organs, while the immediate goal is to eliminate pathogenic wind and related pathological products. This approach offers novel insights for clinical practice.
