STUDIES ON THE ANTINEOPLASTIC ACTION OF POLYPORUS UMBELLATUS I.EFFECT OF POLYPORUS UMBELLATUS EXTRACT ON TRANSPLANTED TUMOURS[J]. Animal experiments showed that tranplantation of Sarconaa 180 in mice can be signi- ficantly inhibited by the extract of Polyporus umbellatus(Pers)Fr(757).Generally
the inhibition rates of tumour volume and weight are 50-70% and over 30% respectively. No harmful reaction or side-effect were observed. About 6-7% of the experimented mice treated with the extract of"757"showed com- plete regression of the tumours. The tumour regressed mice were implanted again with Sarcoma cells after one month or six months
but there were no signs of turnout growth. In the control group
there was no spontaneous regression of the tumour. The growth of turnout could be inhibited when a certain quantity of"757"was given through different routes
such as i.p.injection
i.v.injection and oral administration. Intraperitoneal or intravenous injection was more effective than oral administration. In order to obtain the same therapeutic effect
oral administration should be given in larger dose.Sarcoma 180 in mice was inhibited by preventive administration of"757".The ef- fect of chemotherapeutic agent was not influenced by"757" administered simultaneously. Significant antitumour effect was observed when suitable dosage of"757"was added to the chemotherapeutic agent which had little antitumour effect when administered alone."757" from Seven different districts showed similar inhibitory effects on Sarcoma 180 in mice.
