This article dealt with the experiences in treating chronic prostatitis with combined traditional chinese and western medicine

mainly with the traditional chinese medicine. Based on the opinion that the main problem of chronic prostatitis being caused by the stagnation and obstruction of blood

prostatic fluid and other substances in the follicles

tubules and lobules of the prostate gland

as well as by the fibrosis of the above tissues. The author held that the principle of trea- tment should be to drain

disperse and im- prove the stagnant condition and fibrosis

by differentiating the symptoms and signs according to traditional chinese medicine. The article reported 154 cases with com- paratively complete clinical data during the period 1963～1971.As a result of treat- ment mentioned above

102 cases（66.2%） were cured

17 cases（11.1%）basically cured

31 cases（20.1%）improved

4 cases（2.6%） remained unchanged.The problem of diag- nosis was also discussed.
