242 cases of various types of malaria among immigrators and local inhabitants had been treated with acupncture in the highly endemic malaria area for three years. Glinically
the therapeutic effect on each type of malaria among the local inhabitants Was higher than that on the immigrators. There was also some therapeutic effect on malignant malaria of the immigrators who had lived in the highly endemic malaria area for a long time. The factors influencing the thera peutic effect on immigrators suffering from tertian malaria were investigated. The number of plasmodia in the peripheral blood before acupuncture was definitely related to the therapeutic effect
while the effect of other factors being less.Using the value of serocomplement as an index to investigate the relationship between the therapeutic effect and serocomplement
it was shown that the better therapeutic effect was achieved in case the serocomplement value was increased after acupuncture. Therefore
the author hold that the antimalarial activity of the organism has been strengthened by acupuncture supposing the patients have already possessed certain immunity to malaria. This may be the mechanism for treating malaria with acupuncture.
