160 cases of acute obstructive suppura-tive cholangitis were treated with combinedmethod of traditional Chinese and westernmedicine

of which 150 cases were cured

2 improved and 8 died.The patientswere equally divided into 2 groups

the Agroup（1970～1973）and B group（1974～1978）according to a stage treating program.In group A

the patients were treatedby decoction of Co.Bupleurum scorzonerae-folium Willd.and Scutellaria baicalensisGeorgi composed by ourselves with an ef-fective rate of 85%

in which 65%（52cases）were cured without administrating antibio-tics.In group B

the patients were treated withChinese medicine combined with antibiotics

among which 49 cases cured conservatively

14 were operated at suitable time.The totalcure rate were 78.8%.Among the 33 caseswith shock of moderate

severe and extremesevere degree

24 cases（72.7%）cured withoutreceiving emergency surgical treatment.52 cases（65%）revealed elimination ofcholelithiasis

in which 36（45%）expelled outthe main stones which were responsible forthe cause of obstruction.Out of 15 cases ofDIC

12 were cured

among which 10 weretreated by a decoction of Co.of Salvia mi-ltiorrhiza Bunge.Typing of the disease according to themechanism of pathogenesis from a traditionalChinese medicine viewpoint

also the diagno-sis

and treatment were discussed.
