Effects of electroacupunctuure (EA) at Dazhui (GV14) and Rezhong (GV26) points on cortical somatosensory evoked potential (SEP) and cellular ultrastructure were investigated in the rat of local cerebral ischemia. Results indicated that amplitudes of the various components of SEP lowered significantly
the latent period of the peak prolonged obviously and the most cellular ultrastructure disintegrated in the ischemic group
and amplitudes of the various components of SEP decreased slightly and the latent period of the peak did not obviously prolongate and most of cellular ultrastructures were not dystroyed. It is suggested that EA can block secondary necrosis
which provides a theoretical basis of theory for treatment of ischemic apoplexy with acupuncture and moxibustion.
