Objective:To observe therapeutic effect of Tiaoya Jiangzhi Capsules on hypertension and to explore its mechanism.Methods:Two hundred cases conformed with enrolled criteria were divided into a treatment group and a control group with stratified randomized design method

100 cases in each group.Tiaoya Jiangzhi capsules and captopril were given to the treatment and control group respectively for 6 weeks.Blood pressure

nitric oxide（NO） levels before and after treatment

and improvement of symptoms after treatment were investigated in both groups and the therapeutic effects were compared.Results:After treatment

blood pressure significantly decreased in both groups（P<0.01） with no significant difference（P>0.05）;The treatment group was superior to control in improvement of symptoms（P<0.01）.Cholesterol and triglyceride significantly decreased

and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol significantly increased after treatment in the treatment group

with significant differences as compared with those before treatment or those in the control group（P<0.01 or P<0.05）.After treatment

ET level decreased and NO level increased in both groups （P<0.01）

with no significant difference（P>0.05）.Conclusion:Tiaoya Jiangzhi Capsules has better actions of decreasing blood pressure and improving symptoms

and the mechanism is possibly related with decrease of blood lipids and improvement of vascular endothelium function.
