Objective:To probe into therapeutic effect and advantages of Chinese medicine for treatment of juvenile ankylosing spondylitis.Methods:Clinical data of seventy inpatients diagnosed as juvenile ankylosing spondylitis from 1997～2004 were reviewed and analysed.Forty cases in treatment group were orally adninistered Duhuo Jisheng Decoction plus Xuanbi Decoction

and thirty cases in control group were given Diclofenac and Sulfasalazine orally.Results:After treatment of 8 weeks

there was no significant difference between the two groups in therapeutic effect （P>0.05）

but the adverse effect in the treatment group was significantly less than that in the control group.Conclusion:Chinese medicine has less adverse effects

and long-term administration of western medicine has adverse effect on the digestive system and functions of the liver and kidney in treatment of juvenile ankylosing spondylitis.
