Objective:To observe therapeutic effect of traditional prescription Xuanyu Tongjing Decoction on dysmenorrhea. Methods:Fifty-four cases of dysmenorrhea were randomly divided into two groups. Treatment group （n=34） was orally given Xuanyu Tongjing Decoction with modification according to accompanied symptoms. Control group （n=20） was given patent medicine Jiawei Xiaoyao Pills. Results: Total effective rate of treatment group and control group was 88.24% and 65%

respectively

with significant differences between groups（P<0.05）. Conclusion: Xuanyu Tongjing Decoction has definite therapeutic effect on dysmenorrhea belonging to syndrome type of stagnant heat in liver channel.
