Objectvie:To study the effect of needling method for regulating mentality and tonifying the kidney on 3β-Hydroxysteroid dehyrogenase(3β-HSDH) in the ovary and adrenal gland of climacteric rats. Methods:Climacteric model rats were made naturally. The experimental animals included young group
climacteric group
needling group.Cytozymochemical technique aided with computerized image processing was adopted to determine total areas and integrated optical density of positive substances in the ovary and adrenal gland. Results:In climacteric group
the content or activity of 3β-HSDH in cells of the antral follicle and the mature corpus luteum of ovary were lowered significantly
and that of 3β-HSDH in cells of the interstitial gland of ovary and cells of the zona fasciculata and zona reticularis of adrenal gland remained normal. After acupuncture
the content or activity of 3β-HSDH in those regions were increased significantly. Conclusion:The needling method for regulating mentality and tonifying the kidney can enhance the content or activity of the key enzyme for synthesis of estrogen in the ovary and adrenal gland
which is one of the bases for acupuncture increasing estrogen level in the body.
