Objective To study the effect of Bitongding Capsule on helper T cells（Th1 and Th2）in rheumatoid arthritis（RA）patients.Methods Euzymelinked immunosorbent assay was used to detect the serum level of interferon-γ（IFN-γ）and interleukin-4（IL-4）in RA patients and healthy controllers.Results The serum level of IFN-γ

IL-4 and ratio of INF-γ and IL-4 in RA patient group increased significantly as compared with healthy control group（P<0.01）

while decreased significantly after treatment（P<0.05 or P<0.01）.Conclusion Bitongding Capsule can inhibit humoral and cellular immune functions by inhibiting the serum level of IFN-γ and IL-4

and regulate the activation of Th1 and Th2 in RA patients.
