Objective To analyze the characteristics of TCM syndromes of primary glaucoma to provide evidence for clinical treatment. Methods The disease course
eye pressure and clinical symptoms of 114 patients (120 eyes) with primary glaucoma were studied to analyze their TCM syndrome characteristics and distribution regularities. Results (1) In the primary glaucoma
the patients of liver excess syndrome were at the utmost and those of heart and lung qi deficiency syndrome the least. (2)The disease course of liver excess syndrome group was the shortest and that of spleen and kidney deficiency syndrome the longest (P<0.01 or P<0.05). (3)The eye pressure and scores of symptoms of liver excess syndrome group were the highest (P<0.01 or P<0.05).Conclusion Primary glaucoma is closely related to liver disease and its TCM syndromes tends to change from the liver excess syndrome to liver deficiency syndrome and then to spleen and kidney deficiency syndrome.
